Our Vision
Our vision is to be a church in which every member is provided an opportunity to utilize their spiritual gifts, engage in a diverse worship experience and a ministry that impacts the neighborhood, the city, the nation and the world.
Our Core Values
Ministries
We value ministries where the word of God is spread throughout communities. Isaiah 6:8 Spiritual Gifts We value working together to accomplish a desired goal. Romans 8:28 Dedication We value workers and appreciate them for doing the work of the Lord. Proverbs 16:3 Spiritual Growth We value members growing spiritually to equip them for evangelism. 2 Tomothy 3:16-17 |
Transparency
We value open communication for every member to be informed about the business of the church. John 3:19-20 Planning We value planning ahead for success. Proverbs 24:27 Youth We value the GOD given talents and gifts of the youth by training them in the spirit of love and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 6:6-7 |
Charity
We value giving to those less fortunate. Hebrews 13:16 Health & Wellness We value physiological, social, environmental, spiritual, intellectual, mental and financial health as essential to effectively serve God and the community. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Technology We value reaching the community through the use of innovative technology, such as social media, website, live streaming, to connect people positively and relationally to the truth of Jesus the Christ. Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15 |
The primary task of the Children’s Church is to prepare children for future participation in the regular worship services with their parents.

Reverend John H. Whitfield

Pastor John Whitfield is a proven visionary leader with a genuine love for people. He loves the ministry and the challenges that are associated therewith. He declares, “Every challenge is but another opportunity to realize the goodness of God operating in our lives.”
He is a graduate of the Slidell Theological Seminary where he received a Doctor of Theology, Valparaiso University School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctor, and Austin Peay State University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. He has received numerous academic, civic, fraternal, and professional awards and accolades, and he has published more than twenty scholarly articles and/or presented at professional seminars on the local, state, national and international levels. He is innovative in his approach to ministry, and he understands that all Ministry must be Relevant to be effective. He strives to ‘Keep it Real” and to meet people right where they are in this journey called life. He is a unique and effective Pastor/Teacher. His teachings are practical and designed not to bore the most experienced member of the congregation while keeping the lesser experienced persons engaged. He preaches and teaches out of his experiences. His experiences are the same as most of those whom he serves. He has experienced the loss of his parents, a sibling, a child. He knows what it means to be involuntarily separated from his family, friends and loved ones by way of incarceration. He has experienced the devastation and total loss of material property as a result of a natural disaster. He has experience losses on every level, in his health, personally, in his relationships and his professional life. Through it all, he has never forsaken the Lord Jesus Christ, and he has turned his tests into a testimony that all can identify with on some level. Pastor John Whitfield wants to now share the love of Christ with you by sharing his experiences with you in anticipation that by doing so your faith will be strengthened. He envisions that as others learn more about Morning Star, they will join in the worship service or Bible Study and maybe, just maybe “Come Grow with Us!” |
